‘There’s actually a feeling’: Cunha and Mbeumo implore Amorim to U-turn on outcast Red they want to play with

Several key Manchester United players are of the belief that Antony would be a ‘good fit’ in Ruben Amorim’s system.

The winger is currently seeking a move away from Old Trafford along with fellow outcast Reds Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia. Of the quartet, he’s one who’s actually garnered a host of suitors since the window opened.

It was claimed just over a week ago that Atletico Madrid were ‘emerging as favourites’ for Antony, who’s also previously rebuffed an approach from Serie A outfit Como. However, he has his sights set on a return to Real Betis, where he enjoyed a new lease of life in the second half of 2024/2025.

How Antony fared on loan

Indeed, Antony showcased his most prolific form since he first signed for United when he joined the Spanish club in January, leaving them desperate to sanction his arrival again on a more long-term basis.

The 25-year-old notched nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances, and played an integral role in Betis reaching the UEFA Conference League final and securing Europa League qualification via a sixth-placed league finish.

He was a mainstay from the moment he arrived in Manuel Pellegrini’s ranks, hence why he’s been so keen to repay the manager’s faith by returning for the new season.

Why Antony’s exit is being delayed

Yet, Betis are being priced out of a deal due to United valuing Antony out of their range, with some outlets even suggesting it’d take as much as £40 million to sign the forward this summer; they’d need to sell him for at least £32.5m to avoid taking a PSR hit.

In the event INEOS’ demands aren’t met and Antony isn’t sold before the window closes, he’ll be reintegrated into the squad whether he likes it or not – and the decision would please some of his teammates.

Ben Jacobs revealed this afternoon: “There’s actually even a feeling from [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo, and from other senior United players, that Antony is a good fit in this system, even though the expectation is still that the player wants to drive a move away.”

🚨🗣️ @JacobsBen on Benjamin Šeško:

“My understanding from a Manchester United POV is very positive – I would turn Manchester United the favourites for Benjamin Šeško, simply because the player at the moment prefers Man United to Newcastle even without CL football.”#MUFCpic.twitter.com/0Ltgcj6dgb
