“There is a feeling at the moment that…”: United star reveals dressing room’s true thoughts on club’s current woes

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has suggested that some of the team’s mistakes are being perceived as “a lot worse” than they truly are, following their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday evening.

Alexander Isak and Joelinton both scored in the first half to condemn United to a fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions.

United are currently in 14th place in the Premier League and just seven points above the drop zone.

In his post-match media obligations, Ruben Amorim insisted that United are at risk of being relegated unless results drastically improve.

Like most of his teammates, Eriksen was poor against the Magpies. He and Casemiro struggled with the intensity of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

After the final whistle, Eriksen spoke to MUTV [via Manchester Evening News] and remarked, “I think, in the end, it was a disappointing game. It was a game of moments.”

“We started well but then, in the end, conceding after a few minutes, it’s always tough at home.”

“There is a feeling at the moment that every mistake we make is feeling a lot worse than it actually is. We have to dig ourselves out of this.”

The Dane added, “Whether it is confidence or not, I think it is also, at the same, the belief on the pitch to be able to do what you are good at. It is a bit in between belief and confidence, I think.”

On what’s next for him and his teammates, Eriksen said, “It is very important [we stay together]. We are more or less halfway through the season; there is half a season to go and there are a lot of games with points to play for.”

“I am hopeful that we will turn around at some point, look back and think we were in this, but at some point we will be out of it, for sure.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they make their way to Anfield to face table leaders Liverpool.
