“There are negotiations”: Luis Enrique delivers explosive response over links with Man United

Manchester United are looking to appoint a caretaker manager this week after parting ways with Ruben Amorim earlier this month. The Red Devils are seventh in the Premier League table after 21 matches this season, just three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. While Darren Fletcher took over from the Portuguese head coach, recent reports suggest that Michael Carrick is currently the frontrunner for the caretaker job. The Premier League giants are expected to appoint a permanent manager at the end of the campaign. United have struggled in their efforts to find a suitable replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson, with as many as six managers failing since the legendary Scot’s retirement. The Red Devils are back to square one and are expected to carefully consider the options available before appointing someone permanently for the hot seat at Old Trafford. Recent reports have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique is among the names under consideration. A world-class manager Luis Enrique first rose to prominence after guiding Barcelona to the treble in the 2014/15 season. The Spaniard ended his managerial tenure at Camp Nou with nine trophies to his name and a 76.24% win ratio. After two stints with the national side, Enrique took charge of PSG in the summer of 2023 and went on to create history with the Parisians. He famously the won the treble once again last season, helping the French champions lift the Champions League for the first time in their history. Enrique has been linked with United for some time and those rumours have intensified following Amorim’s departure. It has been recently suggested that the Spaniard has told the PSG board that he wants to leave at the end of this season. Enrique has now provided a response on the matter. Enrique rubbishes rumours Speaking to the press, as cited by Tribal Football, Enrique said: “They are rumours, there are always rumors surrounding PSG . We are used to it, it is a private matter and will remain so.” “There is a lot of false information, fake news. The important thing is to try to destabilise the players and the team, but none of that is going to happen. It is normal that there are negotiations, but they remain private. We know what we want and that is the most important thing.” The Spaniard will enter the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes this summer, so unless he agrees to an extension, the rumours are unlikely to die down. Final Thoughts Enrique’s proven track record and attacking style of play make him a fantastic option for United to consider. Having achieved everything on offer with PSG, the Spaniard could be tempted by the Old Trafford job, as returning the fallen giants to their former glory would further enhance his reputation. It is important to note that Enrique brought in 23 players during his two-and-a-half-year stint at the Parc des Princes so far. As such, INEOS may have to provide the Spaniard with the necessary resources if they want him to take charge at Old Trafford. 🚨 Manchester United reach agreement in principle with Michael Carrick + coaching staff to take over until end of season.
