“The sharp edge of the sword”: Skinner laments vital aspect of United Women’s heavy defeat in CL

Manchester United Women manager Marc Skinner was left feeling frustrated in their 2-5 loss to Wolfsburg. The Red Devils have won three out of their opening four European matches with games against Lyon and Juventus still to come. Nonetheless, they have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions ahead of the international break. Punished Speaking to MUTV after the match Skinner felt his side was hard done by. He claimed, “I think the stats sum it up really. We gave up six shots on target and conceded five goals. They have been clinical but really, we have given them the game. We know that, we’re professional people, professional players.” Even match In spite of the score, Skinner was insistent that his team were very much equals in the game. He explained, “it was quite an even game, quite competitive and then the goals are key. They will be hurting, but they go away on international window, come back and we’ll reflect and move forward.” Incredible so far Skinner was quick to highlight the positives of a campaign which has seen them win nine points from a possible 12. “We’ve come off the back of a loss, but we’ve been incredible in the Champions League. This is the first year and we’ve won three games out of four, and then played Wolfsburg, who have an amazing history in this competition.” He continued, “it’s the sharp edge of the sword that you play with, but we should have those high standards. We’re enjoying it, we’ve got Lyon next.” Finally, Skinner added that his side are finding it tough to manage both competitions and said having Manchester City in the middle of it was “cruel” but that’s “where we want to be, competing at this level.” United are next in action when they face West Ham United at home on Sunday 7th December.
