Manchester United rode on a superlative second-half showing to dismantle Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux on Monday to climb to sixth in the Premier League table. The visitors did take the lead in the first half through a scrappy Bruno Fernandes effort, but were pulled back when the home side equalised on the stroke of half-time. Ruben Amorim must have gone berserk at his players during the break, and that certainly fired up his stars as they came out with purpose in the second half. Bryan Mbeumo rediscovered his scoring touch soon after, before a brilliant volley from Mason Mount made it three for the away side. The skipper then rounded off the scoring from the spot. Scintillating stuff at times as per Mason Mount Apart from the goals, some of the link-up play, especially between the Englishman and the club captain was delightful to watch. The former Chelsea ace alluded to the same in his post-match interview. “I thought some of the combinations going forward were crisp, were sharp and that’s what we can do,” he said. “We know we can do that. It’s about us creating as many chance as we can as forward players and trying to get on the scoresheet. “I thought going forward we were solid, and as a defence it’s about defending as a team and not letting them have any chances to get back into the game.” Considering recent results, a win against bottom-of-the-barrel Wolves was far from guaranteed. And that certainly looked to be the case at the end of the first half. Amorim’s words made an impact Amorim’s words did make an impact, as per the England international. “It was an important win for us. Obviously, [in the] first half we let them back in it before halftime and we go into the changing room frustrated and disappointed with the end to the first half. “The manager had a few things to say and we come out there and it was down to us to attack with purpose and finish our chances we were creating. “We’re happy with the second half, parts of the first half as well. Overall, very happy with that.” The 20-time English league champions cannot afford to relax, with their next game against bogey-side Bournemouth next Monday. With AFCON departures looming it will be a tough fixture to crack.
