Teddy Sheringham Tells Man United They Should Have Signed £56m Marksman Instead Of Benjamin Sesko

BACK Dylan Oakley Nov 11th 2025 Former Man United forward Teddy Sheringham has told Man United that they should have signed Harry Kane instead of Benjamin Sesko this summer.  Man United head into the international break off the back of an impressive spell of form under Ruben Amorim in the past month or so. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last five matches and are just one point off the top four in the Premier League. Much of their success so far this season has been down to their summer signings. Firstly, the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have transformed Amorim’s attacking unit, and Senne Lammens has become the new reliable goalkeeper option. However, United spent £74m on striker Benjamin Sesko to be the new number nine at Old Trafford; however, he hasn’t managed to hit the ground running as of yet. Sesko has made 11 appearances for the Red Devils, and he’s scored just two goals. Sheringham tells Man United they should have signed Harry Kane instead of Sesko Amid Sesko’s struggles, former Man United striker Teddy Sheringham has said that the Red Devils should have signed Harry Kane in the summer, rather than Benjamin Sesko, and Rasmus Hojlund before him. Sheringham told Oddspedia: “Manchester United are asking too much of Benjamin Sesko. It’s a massive job to lead the line for them, the expectations are enormous. It’s always going to be tough for a young, inexperienced striker like Sesko to come into a club like Manchester United and hit the ground running. “The club already tried that approach with Rasmus Hojlund a couple of years back and it didn’t work out. For me, United should have bought Harry Kane to lead the line when they were searching for a new striker. He would have guaranteed you 20–25 goals every season and would have guided them through their transitional period. “Instead, they bought Hojlund for big money, who was a young player who probably didn’t even fully know his own strengths and weaknesses yet. The club have now done exactly the same with Sesko – he’s a young lad who hasn’t played in the Premier League and is still finding his feet.” Kane will have a £56m release clause next summer Kane has been subject to a lot of transfer talk in recent months, as the Bayern Munich striker is going to have a £56m release clause in his contract from the end of the season. There has been a lot of talk about Kane returning to the Premier League, with Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City and Man United all named as potential destinations for the England captain. Since moving to Bayern Munich, Kane has been fantastic, and if anything, the best goal-scorer in world football. He’s netted 108 goals in 113 matches for Vincent Kompany’s side, and is also England’s record goal-scorer.
