Team news: United v Brighton

Manchester United will have Diogo Dalot available again when we host Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

The full-back served a one-match suspension during Thursday night’s dramatic late turnaround win against Southampton, following his red card for two bookable offences in the Emirates FA Cup tie at Arsenal.

It was the first United game Dalot had missed since December 2023, although he was watching on from the stands at Old Trafford, alongside several team-mates who are currently sidelined with injury.

Luke Shaw was present too and the left-back is working hard to recover from the setback he suffered in early December, with Ruben Amorim suggesting prior to the Saints’ visit that Shaw is perhaps a week or two away from returning to full training.

Shaw is further along in his rehabilitation than Mason Mount, who has been sidelined since the Manchester derby last month, while Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are still injured having last featured in the Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham.

Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte were withdrawn at half-time and on 53 minutes respectively against Southampton and the boss cited tiredness as a reason for taking the midfielders off.

After featuring as a substitute in our last two fixtures, youngster Toby Collyer could be a fresher option for Amorim, against the club he was signed from in 2022.

BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS

Former United striker Danny Welbeck returned to league action as a late substitute in the Seagulls’ 2-0 success at Ipswich on Thursday – their first league victory in nine attempts.

The 34-year-old played a part in Georginio Rutter’s clinching goal and has a good record against the Reds, scoring six goals against us since his departure 11 years ago.

Rutter, Yankuba Minteh and Joao Pedro all featured at Portman Road, despite being pegged as doubts ahead of the game, while Tariq Lamptey overcame a virus to be named as a sub. Lewis Dunk also returned as a second-half replacement for Adam Webster.

Fabian Hurzeler’s men have had significant injury issues in recent weeks, as Igor (hamstring) has been ruled out for the rest of the season and Ferdi Kadioglu (ankle) faces a long spell on the sidelines. Evan Ferguson and Jack Hinshelwood are back in training but Brajan Gruda and Mats Wieffer are doubts.
