Ruben Amorim has provided an update from the Manchester United camp, ahead of Sunday’s derby date with neighbours City.
Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot are all uavailable for the Etihad Stadium encounter, which kicks off at 16:30 BST.
Cunha and Mount were hurt during our last outing, the 3-2 home win over Burnley at Old Trafford, while Dalot complained of muscle pain and pulled out of Portugal’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers.
“I think they are out for this game,” Ruben replied, when asked about the trio. “I don’t know how long it is going to take. We need those players to be a very, very competitive team, but we have very good players that are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday, but they are out, they cannot help us in this game.
“I don’t want to say [how long they will be out]. If you talk with Cunha, if you catch Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game! So I don’t know. We will manage day by day, but they are pushing hard and that is a good thing.”
Amorim confirmed Altay Bayindir will remain in goal for the derby, despite hailing the potential of new signing Senne Lammers.
“I believe in Altay,” the boss stated. “He is ready to play and he is going to play.”
Lisandro Martinez is continuing his recovery from a knee operation but Noussair Mazraoui made his first appearance of the season in the Burnley game, although he did not play for Morocco during the international break.
