Team news for Cherries clash

Manchester United look set to be without Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount for the game against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Sunday’s 14:00 GMT kick-off, which is not being broadcast live on TV in the UK, is our final fixture before Christmas.

Mount has been ruled out for “several weeks” after sustaining an injury in our last Premier League game, the 2-1 victory over neighbours City in the Manchester derby.

Lindelof, who started the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham, was withdrawn close to half-time and, although his issue needs to be assessed, head coach Ruben Amorim strongly hinted that the Sweden captain could be unavailable.

“You can see with Vic,” said Amorim at his pre-match press conference. “Vic was recovering; trained really well, we push him, we make all the sprints that he should do before coming to a game.

“But the game is a completely different world, so they have to have more time to train. So, it’s really hard. We try to manage that with rotation, but even with rotation is really hard to have all the squad.”

Such rotation included a change in goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Andre Onana is expected to return for league duties, while, on the attacking front, Amad again showed his qualities when coming off the bench.

Jonny Evans replaced Lindelof, to have a first outing since Amorim’s opening game in charge, the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. Evans scored his first United goal for a decade in the 4-3 reverse.

Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford were not in the squad, and Amorim was quizzed again on the latter during the briefing, and asked if the forward will be available for selection.

“Yes, of course,” said the boss. “It’s the same thing [why he did not feature against Spurs].”

De Ligt was absent in the capital due to illness.

BOURNEMOUTH’S TEAM NEWS

Andoni Iraola has completed his media duties ahead of the game at Old Trafford.

The Cherries boss has reported no fresh concerns ahead of the journey north, so Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson are presumably no longer doubts.

However, the visitors do look set to be without Julian Araujo, Marcos Senesi, Alex Scott, Marcus Tavernier and Luis Sinisterra.

On United, after beating us 3-0 in this fixture last term, Iraola said: “I think they are different. They play in a different way, a different system, a different approach to the games. I think they keep the games more under control. They have raised their possession they have on the ball and they have really good patterns.

“If we allow them to dictate the game, to be the team taking the decisions on the ball, it is going to be really difficult as I think they are playing really well.”
