Manchester United are working on securing the services of Harry Maguire beyond the current campaign, especially following his latest heroics.
The Sheffield native has been a player reborn since the arrival of Ruben Amorim last November. Last season, the defender restored his role as a pillar at the back, thus earning praise from Gary Lineker who hailed Maguire for his ‘terrific’ displays.
This season, the 32-year-old hasn’t always been in the starting lineup, but he got the nod against Liverpool, and ended up producing a stellar performance on both ends of the pitch. The Englishman held his own at the back against Alexander Isak and company, before stunning the Anfield crowd by heading home a late winner.
Man United in talks with Harry Maguire over contract extension

Maguire’s resiliency, leadership and tenacity have made him a valuable member of the squad, so United would be loath to lose him when his contract expires at the end of the season.
So according to Fabrizio Romano, INEOS are determined to keep the former Leicester star at Carrington.
In the latest video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that two meetings have already taken place between Man Utd and the defender, including a direct one at Carrington.
The Italian journalist adds that talks between the two parties are still ongoing, but the salary will be a key point in the discussion.
While Maguire is said to be open to extending his time at Old Trafford, he will likely have to accept a pay cut to earn a new contract, as the management would like to reduce his £190,000-per-week salary.
Why Maguire is eager to stay at Man Utd
While Maguire has been constantly linked with Saudi Pro League clubs who will be happy to cover him with cash, he still feels he has much to offer for Man Utd.
Maguire’s stats with Man Utd managers | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Ruben Amorim | 39 | 5 | 2 |
Erik ten Hag | 71 | 5 | 3 |
Ralf Rangnick | 21 | 1 | 0 |
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | 121 | 6 | 4 |
The centre-back has been plying his trade at the club since 2019, but he endured several forgettable years when his confidence was shattered and was reduced to a figure of ridicule by a section of the fans and the media.
Hence, after finding personal redemption, Maguire might be keen to help United on their path towards revival.
