Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has disclosed what has surprised him the most about the team since joining from Royal Antwerp. Lammens looking right at home Lammens has barely missed a step since signing for the club during the summer transfer window. He made his debut in October and kept a clean sheet as United beat newly-promoted Sunderland 2-0. The Belgian has demonstrated an admirable level of consistency that has already endeared him to supporters. On multiple occasions, he has produced saves that have kept United in games and led to more points on the board. Lammens’ performances earned him rave reviews from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson and he certainly isn’t showing signs of slowing down. He sat down with broadcaster Stadium Astro and was asked which players in the squad he is especially close to. Lammens named goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Dermot Mee but was quick to say that the entire group enjoys a strong bond, which is what has surprised him the most about United. Lammens’ admission The 23-year-old said, “I would say maybe Tom Heaton or the fourth goalkeeper Dermot Mee or also, like, the Dutch guys, because it’s easier with the language as well. But I think just in general that’s what surprised me the most.” “It’s just the togetherness of the group and of the dressing room. Everyone was really nice. So I don’t really want to say one or two guys. It’s in general with everybody, to be honest.” Lammens revealed that he journals before and after games to try and improve. “I think it started when I started played at Antwerp two years ago. I like to write things down before and after a game just to get my head into the right mindset. Sometimes if things don’t go right, or you don’t want it in your head, you just write it down to get it off your chest.” He continued, “I came up with it [journaling] a little bit myself, but also got it [the idea] from people talking about it as well, so I thought I would give it a try and it actually helped me a lot, so I still do it.” “Before a game, I write down a little bit about the opponent, about how they will play and put pressure on me. Also individual things, like key points I have to remember throughout the game.” “Being a complete goalkeeper is something I take pride in. It’s not just stop-stopping, it’s coming out for crosses and helping the defence when the balls go behind them. My distribution as well, but what I’m most proud of is being able to play with my left foot and right.” “That makes it more difficult for the opponent to press me. Coming out for crosses is really difficult in the Premier League especially. I still like to do it a lot, but you need to protect yourself a little bit.” United are next in action on Monday when they go away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The game kicks off at 8pm.
