Surprise candidate emerges to replace Amorim, would send shockwaves across the city of Manchester – report

Manchester United are once again in search of a new first team head coach. Ruben Amorim’s departure A couple of fiery press conferences from Amorim and a 1-1 draw with Leeds United were enough to seal the Portuguese’s fate. It was reported on Monday that the Portuguese had been sacked with immediate effect and that Darren Fletcher would take over the club on an interim basis. There have also been numerous reports suggesting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in line to make a stunning comeback as caretaker manager at the club until the end of the season. Potential summer candidates Nonetheless, it seems likely that United will not hire a permanent coach until the summer, so they can assess their options carefully over the coming months. There have been a plethora of links to numerous managers who are currently in and out of work. Mauricio Pochettino and former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca are also said to be in the running for the job. Current Premier League bosses such as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, AFC Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva are also reported to be high up United’s wish list as long-term replacements for Amorim. Shock candidate One of the most curious names mentioned is former Manchester City title winner Roberto Mancini. Tuttomercatoweb.com report that, whilst Glasner is in pole position for the job, “according to several sources, Roberto Mancini is also in the running” to be the new United boss. Gareth Southgate, Kieran McKenna and Maresca are also highlighted as potential options that United may pursue.
