Summer battle brewing between United and fierce PL rivals for “top” English wonderkid who can plug two holes in the squad – Telegraph

Manchester United’s youth recruitment under INEOS has been impressive, to say the least. Interestingly, the club is not only scouring the global market but is also always on the lookout for young talent from within the Premier League. For every Sekou Kone and Diego Leon, the co-owners have signed Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi. And according to The Telegraph, more such signings are in the pipeline. Mike McGrath‘s report states that the Red Devils are among a glut of English teams eyeing a summer move for soon-to-be free agent Samuel Amissah of Fulham. Samuel Amissah on United’s radar The 18-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on a professional deal at Craven Cottage, which means English top-flight clubs can sign him for a relatively modest fee, which a tribunal will set. Apart from United, the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on the England U19 international, while there is also interest from Ajax, Juventus and Marseille. Capable of playing both as a full-back and centre-back, Samuel Amissah has made Fulham’s matchday squad seven times across all competitions but is yet to make his senior debut. “Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are in a summer battle over England under-19 centre-back Samuel Amissah when his contract runs out at Fulham in three months’ time. Summer battle brewing for Samuel Amissah “Amissah, 18, is expected to be the biggest Premier League move in the market of youth players breaking into senior football. The teenager has broken into the first-team squad at Craven Cottage and has been named on the bench seven times this season by Marco Silva. “Fulham are aware of European clubs being interested in their talent, with Ajax, Juventus and Marseille watching his under-21 games and performances on England duty. “His expiring contract in the summer means he can move to a Premier League rival, with a tribunal setting a fee between the clubs. He could also move abroad for smaller compensation.” With the 20-time English league champions in need of a new centre-back, given the injury problems and contract issues, a move for Samuel Amissah would be quite the coup. Whether INEOS can pull this off remains to be seen. A more experienced head will also be needed, so United certainly have their hands full at the moment.
