“So humble”: United’s man-of-the-match vs Fulham purring over his teammate’s heroic performance

Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez was full of praise for youngster Toby Collyer after the away side managed to hold on for a crucial 1-0 win at Craven Cottage.

Martinez capped another fine performance with his second goal of the season to give the Red Devils the three points.

Collyer came off the bench to make a huge impact on the game as he made a fine clearance off the line to stop a certain Fulham equaliser.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match Martinez admitted he was a little fortunate with his goal but was delighted with the victory.

“Yeah, I think I was lucky (with the deflection for the goal). I’m really happy with the way we won the game. It didn’t matter who scored, the most important thing is three points, how we fight, how we played, how we showed character and personality.”

The United defender pinpointed the role of United’s substitute Collyer in the win and lavished praise on the academy product.

“I’m so happy because of this guy, a big example for the younger generation, working so hard every day and so humble.”

Responding to what the Argentinian international said Collyer claimed, “it’s unbelievable, it’s praise coming from a World Cup winner. I couldn’t ask for it to come from anyone better.”

The midfielder then asserted that he was working hard to establish himself as a regular first team player at the club.

“I’m working hard, it’s a tough environment, but it makes you better and develops your character. I’m just looking to improve every day.”

The 21 year old was then asked about his huge moment in the match and he was typically humble in his response.

“I remember wondering if it had gone over (the line), but luckily it hadn’t. I’m happy for the team and the win and the most important thing is that we did it as team together.”

Collyer will feel he may be in line for another start in Europe when United head to Romania on Thursday to play FCSB in their final Europa League group stage match, looking to secure a top eight spot in the table.
