Despite being linked with a host of clubs over the last week and engaging in active negotiations over a move elsewhere, there remains a chance that Rasmus Hojlund is reintegrated into Ruben Amorim’s ranks.
Last Sunday, Amorim opted to drop the forward from his matchday squad for Manchester United’s season-opener at home to Arsenal amid expectations the Dane had played his final game in red.
However, if a transfer fails to materialise, he will be restored to the side, unlike his attacking counterpart Alejandro Garnacho, who’s likely to spend half the campaign in the reserves if he doesn’t complete his desired switch to Chelsea.

Hojlund is reluctant to pull the curtains on his United tenure, having only made his dream move to his boyhood club two years ago.
Amorim is well aware of this, hence not closing the door on his return (Sky Sports), but he has made it clear that the 22-year-old would be playing a heavily reduced role in the presence of first-choice frontman Benjamin Sesko.
The fact that United have no European football to account for throughout 2025/2026 means game time will be incredibly hard to come by for any fringe player who doesn’t impress Amorim with the chances they get, not only Hojlund.

On the other hand, if he does depart, it’s thought the Dane has now had a change of heart over where he’ll end up.
AC Milan were leading the race for his signature up until Wednesday, when Napoli stepped up their efforts to sign a striker in the aftermath of Romelu Lukaku’s lengthy injury layoff. Hojlund is considered Antonio Conte’s No.1 candidate to lead his line.
The Serie A champions opened talks with United on Tuesday and, by the following day, had convinced Hojlund to join them over struggling rivals Milan; they, like the Reds, failed to qualify for Europe last season.
