Sir Jim Ratcliffe plotting his most audacious transfer move, ready to sign “incredible” €63m star for United – report

Manchester United mostly targeted Premier League-proven players in their prime to transform their attack last summer, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Now, United are expected to adopt the same approach for their midfield overhaul. The Red Devils have been closely monitoring Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton. Now, an English publication has thrown a surprising name into the mix. Manchester United keen on Alexis Mac Allister According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are “considering a stunning move” to sign Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. It is claimed United are compiling a shortlist of prospective midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window. It is thought that their recruitment team is monitoring Mac Allister. The “incredible” World Cup-winning midfielder might depart Liverpool at the end of the campaign despite being contracted to Anfield until the summer of 2028. The 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £55 million deal (€63.2m) in 2023, has “experienced a challenging season which has witnessed him battle to rediscover his peak performance levels.” Regardless, convincing Mac Allister to leave Liverpool for a move to Manchester “would represent an enormous challenge” for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company, given the animosity between the two clubs. The last direct transfer between United and Liverpool took place over five decades ago, when Phil Chisnall switched clubs.  Further, United are aware they need to offer Champions League football to lure high-profile players like Mac Allister. Fourth-placed United currently sit three points above sixth-placed Liverpool. Man United and Liverpool fight for Sandro Tonali United have also been recently linked with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, whose agent has suggested that the Italian would consider his options at the end of the campaign. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United face strong competition from Liverpool for Tonali’s signature.  A tireless midfielder like Tonali, who covers ground and enjoys physical battles, is more suited to replacing Casemiro at United than the technically gifted but timid Mac Allister.
