Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho could finally seal a long-mooted transfer to Serie A, with a new report outlining a key development involving Napoli. Sancho’s Serie A close calls It would be an understatement to say Sancho’s spell at United hasn’t gone to plan. Fortunately, a parting of ways this summer appears to be a certainty. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season and there is no indication that United will exercise the option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months. Currently on loan at Aston Villa after Chelsea paid United a penalty to opt out of their obligation to permanently sign him last summer, Sancho is set for free agency, unless he secures a move this month. The England international hasn’t pulled up any trees at Villa but that hasn’t stopped him from being continuously linked to clubs in Turkey. But there have also been rumours of a potential switch to Serie A, which is not new when it comes to Sancho. Juventus launched a strong attempt to snap him up in 2024 but they eventually lost out to Chelsea. Last summer, AS Roma pushed strongly for Sancho but he turned them down, preferring to wait for what he perceived as more attractive opportunities. Napoli have also been previously mentioned to be admirers of Sancho and now, Tuttomercatoweb have claimed that Antonio Conte’s side are back in for the 25-year-old. Sancho transfer update According to the newspaper, Napoli are scrambling to secure attacking reinforcements before the close of the winter window. This move has been prompted by David Neres’s injury, which is now understood to be far more severe than first feared. Neres is poised to undergo surgery for a tendon problem, which may rule him out of action for several weeks. This is where Sancho comes in, although it remains unknown how serious Napoli are about the forward. Even more crucial is whether Sancho could finally be tempted to move to Italy, having turned down the chance to do so in the past. If the transfer gets over the line, Sancho would be reunited with two of his former United teammates in Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay.
