Sesko reveals basketball passion

New Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is a keen basketball fan, who loves shooting hoops in his spare time.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that the 6ft 5in Slovenian is so keen on the sport, given his height and its popularity in his homeland.

He’s previously said he’d have loved to be an NBA player, had he not made it as a footballer, and even now, he still tries to find the time to practise when he’s not focusing on the day job.

“I play a lot of basketball, especially in the days off and stuff, if I really have time,” Sesko told Zarah Connolly, in his signing interview with club media.

“Of course, I’m not sweating a lot because you just have to do regeneration, but if there’s an opportunity that I can take, I’ll play basketball.

“I love to do it. It’s just been also a passion of mine since the youth. When I was off the football, there was basketball.

“So yeah, I like to do that and I’m enjoying it and it’s like it relaxes me.”

Sesko has previously named compatriot Luka Doncic as his favourite player, and the Dallas Mavericks as his team of choice – although this may have changed, after Doncic’s shock trade to the Los Angeles Lakers from the Texans earlier this year.

Sesko and Doncic are two of the biggest names in Slovenian sport at the moment, and Sesko is proud that his country’s flag will soon be flown at Old Trafford.

“Coming from a small country, like Slovenia especially, it is a pleasure,” he added.

Luka Doncic is a five-time NBA All-Star.

“It’s really something that I just wished for, I dreamed for, you know, to play for a club like this, because you don’t always have the opportunity to do that.

“And now that I have, of course, it’s going to be amazing. I know people are going to be proud of me, especially for my country, and that’s what matters in the end also, to feel good.

“For my people and also myself definitely and my family, which is the most important.”
