Manchester United grabbed a last minute equaliser to keep their unbeaten run in tact with a 2-2 draw with Spurs. Red Devil fans will be disappointed not to have got all three points but will be content with fight their team showed when the chips were down. First half The Red Devils had a scare within the first minute when Senne Lammens let the ball slip under his foot from a pass back but the ball rolled out of play for a Spurs’ corner. Luckily, the resulting set piece was overhit and went out of danger. Both teams struggled to keep hold of the ball but United broke through with Bruno Fernandes and he played in Bryan Mbeumo who dragged the ball across the penalty box. The Cameroonian was ultimately flagged offside but it was the most dangerous action of the opening minutes of play. Ruben Amorim’s side were the most comfortable in possession in the first 15 minutes but rarely threatened the home side’s penalty box. Spurs burst into life in the 16th minute when Pedro Porro cut inside and crossed the ball for Richarlison but the ball just floated over the Brazilian’s head. United then had their chance when Matheus Cunha broke into the box and fired an effort on target that was turned away for a corner after 21 minutes. After 30 minutes, United had the ball in the back of the net after good work down the right hand side by Cunha and Amad. The Ivorian finally dug out a good cross and Mbeumo made no mistake heading in and scoring his sixth goal of the season for his new side. Both sides had their moments in attack but Porro broke forward and had the chance to cross into space but he fired a wild effort over the bar instead. Spurs had a couple of chances to get in behind but both De Ligt and Patrick Dorgu got in well to block respective efforts. United held on and defended well to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Second half The Red Devils started the second half on top and broke forward through Dorgu after a splendid through ball from Bruno Fernandes. The Dane picked out Cunha who tried to find a free man in the penalty box but his ball flew aimlessly away from the United attack. 54 minutes in Spurs had their first shot on target when Cristian Romero poked an in-swinging cross towards goal but Lammens stood his ground and tipped the ball expertly away for a corner. The home side kept up the pressure and Lammens was once again called into action when he parried away a close-rage volley from João Palhinha. United responded by breaking forward through Mbeumo and Dorgu but there was nobody in a red shirt to take advantage of the full back’s dangerous position. Spurs had the ball in the back of the net through Brennan Johnson but it was rightly ruled out for offside as he stepped ahead of the visitors’ backline. Amorim’s side defended deep for a while but they had a great chance to double their lead. Casemiro played a long ball up to Fernandes who broke from midfield but he could not control his shot that flew over the crossbar. United had a great chance to get their second when Mason Mount picked out Sesko but the big Slovenian delayed too long and lost his chance to get a shot off on goal. The Red Devils were finally breached when Djed Spence played the ball back and Mathys Tel spun and rifled the ball past Lammens. United immediately responded when Mount found Sesko and he was put through one on one. Once again the striker was slow to react and was tackled by the recovering Spurs’ defence. The visitors had to play the final minutes with ten men as Sesko had to come off the pitch after picking up an injury. Spurs took full advantage when they thought they had scored a later winner. Richarlison headed in a shot from his teammate from distance and sent the home fans into raptures. Nonetheless, if English football teams offers anything, it is late twists in the tail. De Ligt, who has been a star performer all season, rose highest from a corner and headed home the equaliser. United will feel they should have won the game but fans will be pleased they were able to rescue something from such a perilous position.
