Ruben Amorim does not want any other individual player to be blamed for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup exit to Tottenham Hotspur.
Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was unable to prevent Son Heung-min scoring Spurs’ fourth goal, directly from a corner, with an effort that ultimately ruined our attempted quarter-final fightback.
While Bayindir protested the decision to award the goal, claiming he had been fouled by Lucas Bergvall, Amorim did not want to point the finger at any individuals, following our 4-3 defeat.
“No, he doesn’t have to do that. He has to focus,” Amorim told journalists at his post-match press conference.

“We will see the game [back] and we [want to] improve every player of this team. We win together, we lose together.
“You already know, guys: it’s not the individual, it’s the team. We could [still] win this game, even with all the goals in this game, so let’s focus on that.”
Bayindir had been picked for the third time in the Carabao Cup this season and was making his fourth appearance for the club overall.
He was one of five changes Amorim made from the starting XI in Sunday’s derby victory, but our head coach said he had no regrets about his selection choices, which included leaving Marcus Rashford out of the squad.
“I feel that I do the right thing for the team, so it’s never a mistake [not to pick Marcus],” he added.
“You have to make a selection. Like, in the game, you feel that some of the guys go inside of the pitch and change a little bit the game, sometimes it’s like that.
“I feel it was not a mistake as I’m always doing the best for the team, in my way of seeing things.”
Ultimately, Ruben felt the game was decided by an eight-minute period at the start of the second half, where United could not withstand the Spurs storm.
The home side scored twice, through Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, extending their lead to three, a margin which we were unable to overhaul.

“The disconnect is simple: suffer a goal and we have to manage to have long possession to calm down the game,” he said.
“You felt that we suffered the [second] goal and then the ball goes to the middle. We continue to play our way but we lose a lot of balls near our box with the team all open.
“We were really nervous in that moment and one long ball, we suffered the third goal. Then we managed to calm down, to push again and to score three goals.
“Of course, we suffered a [fourth] goal but we have to think what we should do when you suffer a goal. You have to have long possession to stay in the game and calm down and we couldn’t do that.”
