Ruben Amorim speaking to Harry Robinson

Saturday 02 August 2025 18:00

Ruben Amorim is confident that Manchester United are better in every detail as a club now than at the end of last season.

The boss discussed cultural change at United in his first major sit-down interview of pre-season, conducted in Chicago, where the Reds have been based for the last week.

Back in May, Amorim promised fans at Old Trafford that the “good days” are coming, despite end-of-season heartbreak after the UEFA Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Talking candidly in the USA, Ruben explained the changes he’s noticed in recent months.

“I think are we better in every detail,” he said, “in the organisation of the day-by-day.

“The nutrition is better, the way we cook, what we eat, how we prepare training. I think that we are more organised. I think we have people now that help us to be better. I’m not concerned with small things and I was last year.

“So, those things help us and help me to think more about watching the game, watching the team. So it’s a big help for me.

“When it’s a big help for the technical staff, it’s a big help for the players.”

In essence, Ruben feels now that he can be more focused on coaching the team, rather than addressing bigger picture issues at the club.

“Then, I think the players are working really well and they understood that they need to give 100%,” he continued.

“If they don’t give that, it’s going to be hard for them here. So, that is also important.”

Asked for a specific example of how that cultural change manifests itself in day-to-day life at United, Ruben mentioned the sound at mealtimes.

“It’s completely different,” he explained.

“These are some details. It’s not going to win games, but it’s going to help us win games.

“They [the players] stay more. Before, they ate, and they left right away. Now, they wait for each other. They stay longer, and you can feel it in the noise. It’s getting better.”
