Ruben Amorim has challenged his players to adapt and embrace new challenges in forward areas, ahead of Friday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Leicester City.
United have struggled for goals in recent Premier League games, especially at home and in first halves.
Kobbie Mainoo was fielded as a ‘false nine’ during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and Amorim suggested we could see more players tasked with fulfilling alternative roles going forward.
Our head coach added that, although new addition Patrick Dorgu will provide a threat from either flank, he needs time to adapt and so others have to step up.

Press conference part one | Ruben Amorim discusses injuries and our new signings before Leicester’s cup visit…
“We have to find players to play in the different positions,” he told reporters, at Thursday’s press conference, when asked about the side’s attacking output.
“We can say in the way we play, with Dorgu, we have one more winger to play in both sides. Of course, it’s going to take time so it’s not going to solve all the problems.
“We have to improve. We create chances, we don’t score. We have many shots inside the box and we catch [hit] always one player, so these small things, I think we can improve.
“I think Amad can score more, Bruno [Fernandes] can score more, even Kobbie Mainoo can score more, playing in that position a little bit further on the pitch.
“So, we have to improve as a team, we have a little bit more time. Let’s see in the end of the season.”
The Reds have scored 28 goals in 24 league games this term, although we have added a further 33 when the various cup competitions are taken into account.
Leicester have also been a favoured opponent, as we put eight goals past the Foxes during two meetings in the autumn, when their current boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was our caretaker manager.
