Ruben reveals his demands for Amad
Friday 10 January 2025 16:00
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has spoken positively about Amad’s future, following the announcement he has signed a new contract until June 2030.
It was confirmed on Thursday that our Ivorian no.16 has put pen to paper on fresh terms, as a reward for his excellent performances over the last 12 months.
Since breaking into the first-team set-up following a couple of educational loans at Rangers and Sunderland, Amad has become a real fans’ favourite. This is largely due to his relentless work ethic, willingness to play anywhere and, above all, his uncanny ability to score big goals against historic rivals.
Of course, supporters loved his extra-time winner against Liverpool in last season’s Emirates FA Cup quarter-final and, more recently, a sensational decisive strike at Manchester City in the Premier League.

NEW: THE DEBATE | Amad has played in many positions under Ruben, but which is his best? Let’s hear from the panel…
With a new contract signed, Amad is set to play an important role under Amorim and our head coach is delighted to be working with the hard-working 22-year-old.
Speaking in our interview to preview Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal, Ruben admitted now is the time to challenge the player to improve further:
“That is really clear,” says Ruben.
“And we are going to be more demanding with Amad. He knows what we want to expect from him. Now he has a bigger responsibility because he has a long contract with a big club, so we’re going to be really demanding with him.”
HOW AMAD REACTED
In the club statement to announce his deal, our no.16 said: “I am really proud to have signed this new contract. I have had some incredible moments with this club already but there is so much more to come. I have huge ambitions in the game and I want to achieve history at Manchester United.
“I have learnt so much since arriving here four years ago; I am very grateful to the coaches and staff who have helped me to develop, and to the fans for driving me forward every day.
“It has been a difficult season for everyone, but I fully believe that we are on the right path and the future is going to be really special. I am ready to give everything to help the team and make our supporters proud again.”
A BRIGHT FUTURE
Jason Wilcox, United’s technical director, has also reacted to Amad’s big news by looking forward to the years to come.
“Everyone is delighted with Amad’s development; his quality on the ball, versatility and determination makes him a key part of the future of Manchester United.
“The best years of his career are ahead of him, and we all look forward to helping Amad to reach his immense potential and achieve success at the club in the coming seasons.”
