Ruben Amorim Makes Frank Admission About Man Utd Signing Senne Lammens

BACK David Tully Nov 24th 2025 Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted that he didn’t expect Senne Lammens to settle in so quickly. The Belgian has looked supremely confident since taking over the gloves, despite never having played for a team the size of United, and Amorim says he is shocked that things have gone this smoothly: “Of course, we do our diligence when we are going to buy players. It was a surprise. All the pressure that we suffer with the goalkeeper position, to arrive here and to show that confidence.” “To transmit that confidence to the team, I think, was a little bit of a surprise for me. I’m not going to say [it was a surprise for] everyone, but I’m talking as a manager. I have no problem to say that was a surprise for me.” Lammens had to convince Amorim Despite paying an initial £18m to bring the 23-year-old to Old Trafford on Deadline Day, he did not start his first three games for United, with Amorim opting to keep faith with Altay Bayindir. However, since Lammens was selected in goal for the 2-0 win over Sunderland at the start of last month, the keeper has not looked back. While one clean sheet in 5 games doesn’t sound that impressive on paper, he has produced a series of excellent saves, helping to keep the Red Devils unbeaten during his spell in the team. It’s a stark contrast to Man Utd’s last two keepers The weight of the number one jersey has been an issue for previous incumbents. Andre Onana did not manage a consistent run of form, and he has subsequently been loaned out to Trabzonspor. He is not expected to stay at Old Trafford even if he does return from Turkey next summer. Bayindir, meanwhile, was never far away from dropping a clanger, having regularly struggled to claim crosses and corners. Fans will be hoping that Lammens can build on this strong start and be a safe pair of hands for years to come.
