BACK Barcelona still have the option to sign Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford for €30m (£26m), according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Reports suggested that the clause in the loan deal expired on March 31st, but Romano has shot down those claims: “Some stories coming out of Spain, and I always say that with maximum respect, every source, every journalist has his own information, report that the buy option clause for Marcus Rashford from Man United to Barcelona, 30 million euros, expired at the end of March. Sources at both clubs, Man United and Barcelona, suggest that the 30 million euros option is still valid until the end of the current season” “So, if Barcelona arrive tomorrow and pay 30 million euros, they can still sign Marcus Rashford. Now it’s on Barcelona to make a decision.” The Rashford money will go towards new signings The news that the purchase clause is still valid means United can still anticipate receiving an additional €30m (£26m) that will go towards their transfer budget. It is believed that the permanent departures of both Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund are crucial to the Red Devils’ plans for the summer. Their exits would add up to £64m to the coffers, and that would certainly assist the team’s search for a new left winger. Man Utd want Barca to pay the fee Of course, Barcelona have yet to promise that they will trigger the clause on Rashford. It is believed that the Catalan club are looking for a discount. At the moment, Director of Football Jason Wilcox is staying firm on the requested fee, and it may ultimately come down to who blinks first on the matter. Barca have an agreement in place with Rashford on personal terms, so there is still hope they will bite the bullet and cough up the money. Want more news on Man Utd?
