Man United were given the chance to sign Tyrique George in negotiations with Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 19-year-old scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in 26 appearances after making his senior debut last season, but he is keen on leaving Stamford Bridge to get regular game time. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
“I can 100% tell you that Chelsea expect the Alejandro Garnacho deal to happen. The player expects that this deal will happen as he has turned down many opportunities.”
“There were some talks to include Tyrique George in the deal… but I was told this option stopped a few weeks ago. He’s now being considered by Roma.”
What is the current situation with Garnacho?
It is believed that Chelsea need to offload Christopher Nkunku and/or Nicolas Jackson to finance a bid for the Argentinian international.
For that reason, it is not a complete surprise that the Blues were looking to manufacture a swap deal for Garnacho due to their limited funds, but it seems as if United are more interested in getting money for their player rather then recruiting George in exchange.
Man United have set their asking price
Reports suggest that the Red Devils are demanding around £50m for Garnacho, while Chelsea were initially only willing to pay £30m.
That is a substantial gap to bridge, and it appears that any official offer for the 21-year-old may now have to wait until Enzo Maresca’s side have raised enough money through player sales.
Garnacho has no future at Old Trafford. The forward has spent the entire summer training away from the first-team squad, along with the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.
Speaking about the four players last week, head coach Ruben Amorim said he wants their futures resolved as soon as possible:
“I know that is not a good thing to have players in this situation,” Amorim admitted, “but it’s clear they want to play in a different club and that is clear.”
