BACK David Tully Feb 17th 2026 Man Utd could be looking to bring in two midfielders as part of their summer transfer plans, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said he had not been informed of any concrete interest in Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, but he does name three other players the Red Devils are keen on recruiting: “At the moment, I’m not aware of anything concrete or strong in terms of links between Manchester United and Mac Allister. Man United will be busy in the summer. Man United will be really busy with that position – could be one, could be two midfielders.” “It could be really interesting, but before they decide who they want, there are two main points to clarify: whether they play in the Champions League next season, which will influence their budget, and who will be the manager – Michael Carrick or other candidates.” “There are several options. Elliot Anderson is really appreciated; Carlos Baleba was a top target with Ruben Amorim. Sandro Tonali is appreciated by Man United, Juventus and Arsenal. So there are going to be plenty of movements for these players. Before we know who the player is that United want, we need to be patient. With Alexis MacAllister, there is nothing really advanced or concrete in terms of conversations.” The Mac Allister rumours have not been entirely refuted While it seems very unlikely that such a deal could be agreed between Liverpool and Manchester United, it’s interesting that the speculation has not been flat-out denied. Mac Allister may simply be a player that Man Utd’s transfer department like, and if they get wind that he may be up for sale this summer, they could be tempted to make an offer. Which midfielder(s) are Man Utd looking to sign? Both Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are thought to be pretty high up the club’s shortlist, but neither is expected to be available for a low price, with previous reports indicating that Nottingham Forest and Brighton would want fees close to £100m. There will also be fierce competition for Anderson, in particular, as both Manchester City and Chelsea have been mentioned as possible suitors. Tonali could cost a similar amount, and as Romano mentions, Arsenal and Juventus are interested in the Italian international as well. Want more news on Man Utd?
