Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a move that could put them ahead of Manchester United and other rivals in the pursuit of Brentford skipper Nathan Collins.
United interested in Collins
There remains a small chance that United will make reinforcements to their defensive department before the close of the summer transfer window.
There is a desire to beef up Ruben Amorim’s backline options following the exits of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans at the end of June. It’s also worth noting that Lisandro Martinez is still recovering from an ACL injury sustained in February and will almost certainly need time to fully get back up to speed.
But, with United also looking at making additions in midfield and potentially between the sticks, a defensive signing may be entirely contingent on player sales.
The Red Devils are still trying to offload the likes of Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. Rasmus Hojlund is another player who looks set to leave the club amidst interest from Napoli and AC Milan.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United have earmarked Collins as a surprise target.
Collins has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Brentford from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2023. The Bees forked out £23m to land the Republic of Ireland international.
It was stated that United are not the only party chasing Collins, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also named as admirers of his.
Now, CaughtOffside relay that Tottenham are preparing to step up their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
Tottenham intensify Collins chase
CaughtOffside claim that Tottenham are “upping their efforts” to beat their competitors to Collins’ services. Thomas Frank is eager for a reunion and North London and contacts between the two clubs are expected to commence imminently.
Regarding where United currently stand on Collins, CaughtOffside explain, “Manchester United are also in the mix, but their financial situation means they’d need to sell players before making a serious bid.”
“Numerous sources have confirmed that this is expected to put them at a disadvantage in the race.”
Liverpool have the funds to swoop in for Collins but their primary objective is Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
