Manchester United are interested in signing FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa during the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has performed well for the Portuguese outfit, and Costa’s performances have attracted the attention of the Red Devils. It is no secret that Manchester United need more quality in the goalkeeping department. André Onana has not been able to live up to expectations since joining Manchester United, and his error-prone performances have cost the team valuable points.

Manchester United need a reliable presence in that area of the pitch if they want to fight for trophies next season and secure Champions League qualification. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the 25-year-old goalkeeper dreams of playing in the Premier League next season. This will certainly serve as encouragement for Manchester United, and it remains to be seen whether they follow up on their interest with an official offer to get the deal done.

Costa has proven to be a reliable performer for club and country over the years. He is young enough to improve further, and he could be the ideal long-term acquisition for Manchester United. Costa was labelled as a “very good” player by Mikel Arteta last year.

Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Costa for over a year.

Man United need to plug their weaknesses

The Red Devils have done impressive business in the market so far, having improved their attacking unit immensely with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They must look to improve other areas of their squad now, and signing a reliable goalkeeper should be one of their priorities.

The opportunity to join Manchester United would be quite tempting for the Portuguese international. They are among the biggest clubs in the world and could provide him with the platform to fight for trophies.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
