Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is contemplating his future at the club, according to reports.
TalkSPORT claim that the 20-year-old would “consider leaving” Old Trafford if the Red Devils receive a good enough offer before the transfer window closes.
Mainoo did not play a single minute against Fulham during the 1-1 draw at the weekend, having also failed to make an appearance on the opening day versus Arsenal.
With just two places up for grabs in midfield, the England international could find game time hard to come by, especially as United are also without European football this season.
Amorim has explained Mainoo’s lack of minutes
Mainoo was visibly unhappy on the bench at Craven Cottage, and asked to explain why the midfielder is not playing following the match on Sunday, head coach Ruben Amorim said:
“He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno and I change two midfielders. I let Mason Mount [play] there because we want to score a goal, and when I changed, I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.”
“So he (Mainoo) just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as [it] should be at Manchester United. [Sometimes] he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position.”
Would Man United be tempted to sell?
As Mainoo is homegrown, he would go down as pure profit on the balance sheet. His departure would, therefore, free up funds to pursue a midfielder who has traits more to Amorim’s liking.
Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the past, while Tottenham have been linked more recently, but there have been suggestions that Mainoo would prefer a transfer abroad if he does leave Manchester.
No concrete bids for the player have been made yet, but that could change before the transfer deadline next Monday.
