Report: Euro giants perform dramatic U-turn on United’s £50m warrior as Fabrizio Romano confirms summer exit looms

Juventus have reportedly reached a major decision regarding Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte amidst the ongoing speculation surrounding his future. Possible exit Ugarte is looking increasingly likely to leave United this summer, amidst his struggle to make an impact at the club. Since joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2024, he has failed to nail down a regular starting berth under all three managers he has played under. His limited minutes have persisted under Michael Carrick, who has demonstrated a clear preference for a midfield pivot of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo. Ugarte is also understood to be unhappy with his situation and would consider an exit, in an effort to get his career back on track. A number of potential transfer destinations have emerged for the Uruguayan. He continues to be linked to the likes of Juventus, while a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland are also admirers of him. Galatasaray are also said to be keeping close tabs on his situation. It was previously stated that Juventus are only prepared to pursue an initial loan agreement for Ugarte, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of next season. Furthermore, they are unwilling to assume his entire wage bill, leaving two alternatives: Ugarte accepts a reduction in salary, or United contribute to the cost of the loan. However, Tuttomercatoweb have now made a completely different claim, writing that Juventus are prepared to offer around €40m (£35m) for Ugarte. Ugarte transfer update TMW say that Juventus’s €40 m (£35m) proposal would allow United to recoup most of what they paid to secure Ugarte’s services two years ago. However, Juventus sanctioning a swoop for the combative midfielder is dependent on securing Champions League football. The Bianconeri currently sit in fifth place in the standings, one point below Como in fourth. If they don’t get into the Champions League, Juventus are unlikely to afford Ugarte. The Serie A giants’ transfer is also complicated by Monaco’s interest in the player. Fabrizio Romano notes that “movements have started” around Ugarte and talks about the fee and deal structure are set to follow. 🚨 Manchester United are considering to sign 2 midfielders in the summer as Manuel Ugarte could leave.
