Manchester United had a host of exits to sort out in the summer transfer window, and they ended up loaning out a number of first-team players. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana are all away from the club on loan.
Onana was one of the last players to leave Man Utd this season, joining Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan after the European transfer window closed. The arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp all but ended his Man Utd career.
Now, according to The Sun, Trabzonspor are eager to sign Andre Onana permanently at the end of his loan spell, following his impressive start in Turkey. The on-loan Man Utd goalkeeper has given a good account of himself in his first few games.
The Turkish side signed the player on a loan deal without an option or obligation to buy. However, they agreed to cover his entire £120,000-a-week salary, which was a major reason Man Utd agreed to let him go, to free up the wage bill.
Onana was signed from Inter Milan a couple of seasons ago, and his time at Old Trafford has been disastrous, to say the least. He always seemed to have a mistake in him, and fans slowly grew tired of his antics.
Having made an excellent name for himself at Ajax and subsequently Inter Milan, it was a shame that his career never took off in a Man Utd shirt. With the signing of Senne Lammens, the player will know he does not have a future at the club.
Should he continue to play at a high level for the Turkish side, that should pique interest from other top clubs in Europe. Thus, Onana might want to wait as long as possible before making a decision on his future. From a Man Utd point of view, the better he plays, the easier it will be to move him on for a decent fee, and we will have to wait and see how things play out.
