“Reeks of toxicity”: Ben Foster tears into United’s bad boy after latest social media drama

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has claimed that Jadon Sancho’s recent behaviour on social media shows the toxicity in the United dressing room.

The on-loan winger, who is currently at rivals Chelsea, fell out with the previous manager Erik ten Hag for failing to show his full effort in training and was ostracised from the squad, eventually spending the rest of the 2023/2024 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

The Englishman joined Chelsea this season and irked United fans once more when he posted the word “freedom” on Marcus Rashford’s Instagram page after he made his debut for Aston Villa in the FA Cup last weekend.

The winger was clearly taking a dig at his parent club and implied that Rashford was now in a better place at Villa Park after escaping the restrictions of playing at Old Trafford.

With Chelsea having an obligation to sign Sancho in the summer, the winger will soon not be Ineos’ problem but former United keeper has laid into the actions of the England international.

Speaking on his podcast Ben Foster- The Cycling GK, he claimed that “What is he doing? That’s ridiculous because he is still actually employed by Manchester United, so is Marcus Rashford.”

“It just reeks of toxicity at United. It reeks of an unhappy place to be, that everybody’s buzzing for someone to get out [of the club].”

The Telegraph have also questioned Sancho’s actions and pointed out the absurdity of describing Rashford stepping away from his boyhood club on a wage of £300,000 a week as “freedom”.

The paper comments that Sancho’s “latest intervention, while clearly intended to be light-hearted, is about as tone-deaf a remark as can be imagined. Actually it is simply ludicrous. Moreover, it speaks volumes for his attitude and the fractured nature of the dressing room.”

It is also highlighted that the post shows a major lack of respect for fans who pay their hard-earned money to go to watch United week in, week out.

Actions like this just demonstrate the thankless task that previous managers had, and now Ruben Amorim has, of weeding out the negative influences in the dressing room.

It is safe to say that most United fans won’t shed a tear when Sancho finally departs the club for good this summer.
