Reds seeking Saturday lunchtime boost
Thursday 20 February 2025 14:00
Manchester United are looking to maintain a good record in Saturday lunchtime kick-offs when facing Everton this weekend.
Opta have highlighted the fact that the Reds have won seven of our last nine Premier League games kicking off in the televised slot, with two of these victories coming against the Merseysiders.
In April 2023, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial scored the goals in a 2-0 triumph at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s side peppered Jordan Pickford’s goal and were good value for the three points, as Christian Eriksen was also welcomed back after the injury he sustained against Reading in the Emirates FA Cup.

The other instance of facing the Toffees in a 12:30 kick-off since the start of the 2022/23 campaign was a 2-0 win in March of last year.
Again, this was at Old Trafford rather than Goodison Park, and both goals were penalties.
Alejandro Garnacho earned both spot-kicks, the first of which came when he was fouled by James Tarkowski and Bruno Fernandes stepped up to beat Pickford.
Later in the first half, Ben Godfrey abruptly ended Garnacho’s mazy run inside the box and referee Simon Hooper again pointed to the spot. Fernandes passed on duties to Marcus Rashford, who sent Pickford the wrong way from 12 yards.
There would have been a third penalty, as Rashford was hauled down by Jarrad Branthwaite, but the offside flag went up to overrule the initial decision.

During this spell, we have also beaten Southampton twice in 12:30 kick-offs, with both wins coming at St Mary’s.
The other teams seen off were Wolves, Manchester City and Fulham, with the losses coming against West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Hammers were managed by former Reds boss David Moyes, who will be in the opposing dugout on Saturday, after replacing Sean Dyche as Everton manager last month.
