Reds primed for Europa League draw
Friday 21 February 2025 09:08
The draw for the Europa League round of 16 takes place in Nyon from 12:00 GMT today (Friday).
The situation is a simple one for Manchester United – Ruben Amorim’s team will face either AZ Alkmaar or Real Sociedad.
The away leg will be held on Thursday 6 March, with the return at Old Trafford a week later.
Dutch side AZ cruised past Galatasaray 6-3 on aggregate, following a 2-2 draw in Turkey, while La Real racked up a 7-3 triumph over Midtjylland in their two-legged play-off tie.

Much more will be discovered though, when the draw is finished in Switzerland, as the entire path through to the final in Bilbao will be mapped out
This is because of the bracket system being deployed in the competition, so United and fellow English challengers Tottenham will be split. The first of the two Premier League sides will be placed in the left side of the draw, with the second on the right.
For instance, meeting, and beating, Real Sociedad would set up a quarter-final contest with FCSB or Lyon or Eintracht Frankfurt. Facing, and overcoming, AZ would see Ajax or Lyon or Frankfurt follow next.
All will become much clearer this afternoon – we will be across it on ManUtd.com and the United App.
