Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has stated that he is keen to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but when asked about his future, Hojlund was adamant he is going nowhere:
“I think my plan is very clear, and that is for me to STAY at Manchester United. I want to fight for my spot, whatever happens.”
“I am still very young; people sometimes forget that. I am only 22 years old. I have learned a lot, and I think that shows in my game. I have done very well so far during the pre-season… I want to stay here.”
Man United have made contact with Sesko’s club
It is believed that informal conversations have been held with RB Leipzig, while it is already known that the Slovenian would favour a move to Manchester ahead of Newcastle.
The main obstacle is thought to be Sesko’s price tag. At the moment, Leipzig are holding out for €75m (£65m) up front, with add-ons and a sell-on clause also required.
Hojlund is “likely to leave” if a striker is signed
Speaking to TBRFootball before Hojlund’s comments, journalist Graeme Bailey made it clear that the forward is well aware that his days with United are numbered.
“Rasmus Hojlund knows he is not wanted by Man United as first choice, he knows they have been talking to strikers all summer – let’s not forget they were trying for Liam Delap in early July. Now it is Benjamin Sesko.”
“United have not directly told him he can leave, and vice-versa, Hojlund has not demanded to leave – but I am told they have talked and he knows where he stands. If Sesko or another new number nine arrives, Hojlund is likely to leave.”
It remains to be seen who United could sell Hojlund to. There is still some interest from Inter Milan, despite the Nerazzurri’s decision to buy Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny. Juventus are another potential suitor (although they also hold an interest in PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani), while Roma could make an approach if they offload Artem Dovbyk.
