Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly still keen on lining up for his boyhood club despite ongoing uncertainty over his future.
Rashford hasn’t played for United in their last nine games across all competitions after admitting he is ready for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.
The England international was left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.
After the final whistle, Ruben Amorim told reporters that it was Rashford’s own choice not to be available for selection. Amidst all this, the Carrington academy graduate continues to be linked with a January loan exit, with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham all thought to be interested in him.
However, a loan move is being held up by the player’s massive £325,000-a-week wages, as any suitors would require that United subsidise most of his salary.
Now, Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News reports that Rashford “remains available for selection” and “wants to play for the club.”
“Sources have clarified Rashford, who outlined his desire for a “new challenge” last month, has not declared himself unavailable after he was left out of the team for the ninth match running in the 3-1 home defeat to Brighton.”
“Rashford has conducted extra training sessions to maintain his fitness but he could still leave his boyhood club before the January transfer window closes on February 3.”
This has been reiterated by Chris Wheeler of Daily Mail who also notes, “Marcus Rashford still wants to play for Manchester United and is available for selection, sources have revealed.”
“Sources say he has no issue with Amorim and is ready to give 100 per cent for the team.”
It remains to be seen whether Amorim makes a dramatic U-turn with regard to his stance on Rashford and reinstates him back into the team.
United are back in action on Thursday when they take on Rangers in the Europa League.
