Marcus Rashford took little time in scoring the opening goal of the Ruben Amorim era, with his second-minute strike in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

The Academy product, starting up front, touched home Amad’s right-wing cross to hand us a flying start in Suffolk.

It was the fastest goal for any new United boss, in this regard, and the second time he has managed to enter the record books after also firing the maiden effort of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure. It came five minutes into a thumping 5-0 win at Cardiff City, as the Norwegian initially took interim charge.

Two other Reds have managed this same feat, scoring the first goal for a new manager on two occasions.

The ever-dependable Lou Macari netted for both Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson, against West Midlands duo Birmingham City and Coventry City respectively.

Wayne Rooney also scored, in 2014, during Ryan Giggs’s opener in caretaker charge, a win over Norwich City, and for the next appointment, Louis van Gaal, as Swansea were beaten on the opening day of the season.

Sir Matt Busby had two stints at the helm, with Jack Smith the man first on the mark for him, as we begin our focus in the post-War era (George Best did it in the second spell).

It took three games for a Sir Alex Ferguson side to find the net, with Danish defender John Sivebaek coming up trumps, with the only goal against Queens Park Rangers in 1986.
