“Players who want to…”: Treble winner’s cryptic message points finger at certain United stars after derby delight

Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham has aimed a subtle dig at the effort levels of some United players.

The Red Devils made headlines before the match even started as Ruben Amorim decided to leave out Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad that travelled to the Etihad to face Manchester City.

Amorim explained that the decision was taken as they had not impressed as much as others in training.

Rashford had previously been booed by the away fans in Czechia against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday night last week for a perceived lack of effort.

The Peoples Person relayed the news last week that many at the club were becoming exasperated with the player’s inability to take on advice, and there were numerous concerns that his off-field endeavours were causing too many distractions.

Despite the omission of Rashford and Garnacho, United grabbed a dramatic 2-1 victory over their neighbours, with Amad Diallo netting a wonderful late winner.

In response, Beckham posted on Instagram after the game, “And the rebuild begins. Big win. Big win with players who wanna wear this jersey.”

According to The Daily Mail, “This message was accompanied by a photo of star man Amad kissing the United badge on his shirt at the Etihad Stadium.”

While it was not clear that the message was aimed at the two United stars, it can be logically assumed that is who the Inter Miami president was referring to.

Amad, on the other hand, has won much support from the Old Trafford faithful as, despite perceived unfair treatment from previous manager Erik ten Hag, he has worked quietly and diligently behind the scenes.

He has since massively taken advantage of the chances that interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and now Ruben Amorim are providing him.

Beckham, for his part, was a member of a generation of United players who did not always win, but they fought tooth and nail for the club, and nobody could ever really question their work ethic.

Finally, it seems Rashford is losing support in the media as both former players turned pundits, Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand, publicly backed Amorim’s stance to omit him from the massive match, leaving the England international’s future very much in doubt.
