Everton have convinced Manchester United academy director Nick Cox to become their new technical director, as per reports.
Ever since INEOS’s arrival, United have raided a number of English clubs to reshape their football structure.
CEO Omar Berrada arrived from Manchester City and Jason Wilcox left Southampton’s project for a role at United. The Red Devils also spent months trying to get Dan Ashworth out of Newcastle United.
With these appointments, Sir Jim Ratcliffe also underlined just how unimpressed he was with United’s structure. Interestingly, Cox survived INEOS’s ruthless revolution.
The United academy director has earned plenty of plaudits for creating a brilliant culture at the club’s academy that continues to produce top talents.
However, now the Mancunians will have to look for a new figure to spearhead their youth setup.
According to i Paper, Everton have “pulled off a considerable coup” by recruiting Cox as their new technical director.
The Toffees are entering a new era, having decided to move to a new stadium. At the same time, the club’s hierarchy also plan to make a major behind-the-scenes revamp under new chief executive Angus Kinnear.
Everton have already handed Manchester City’s director of scouting and recruitment James Smith a senior scouting role and now they want Cox to become their most senior executive on the footballing side.
The Daily Mail’s Nathan Salt claims that Cox will remain at United for a few more months to “ease transition”.
The 47-year-old spent nearly a decade at Old Trafford and had previously turned down various roles.
However, it is understood he found Everton’s offer too tempting to snub after being “directly headhunted.”
