PL rival prepares blockbuster €100m offer for Mason Greenwood, it will send shockwaves across Old Trafford – report

Former Manchester United academy graduate Mason Greenwood’s future has been subject to speculation following a stellar run with Marseille. He was once considered the next best thing to emerge from Carrington and was also tipped to become a future Old Trafford superstar. However, off-field issues derailed his career, leading the Red Devils to first suspend him and then send him out on loan to Getafe at the start of the 2023/24 season. Greenwood left permanently in the summer of 2024 to join Marseille, by which time he had scored 35 goals and set up 12 more in 129 appearances for United. Since moving to France, the player has slowly turned his career around. Greenwood’s record in France Greenwood has flourished under the tutelage of Roberto De Zerbi at the Stade Velodrome, and is now an established first-team star. This season, the 24 year old has scored 15 goals and registered four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions. While he largely operates in the right forward role, Greenwood is comfortable playing across the front three, as was evident during his time at United. He has also operated as a centre-forward this season for the Ligue 1 club on a couple of occasions. It now appears that the player’s efforts have endeared him to one of the Red Devils’ bitter rivals. Liverpool want Greenwood According to Fichajes, Liverpool have identified Greenwood as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Reds are laying down succession plans for the Egyptian, who looks likely to leave Anfield at the end of the season. The reigning Premier League champions want someone who can hit the ground running and have zeroed in on Greenwood for the job. The former United man’s experience of playing in the top tier of English football also makes him a suitable choice for the role. Marseille are aware of the rising interest in their prized asset and are braced for offer for the player this summer. Greenwood is under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2029 and the club reportedly values him at €80-100 million. Liverpool are willing to match that asking price as they believe that the player can add balance to their squad. Final Thoughts United have moved away from the Greenwood saga and have too much on their plate at the moment to be affected by the recent updates. However, the Red Devils could benefit from the sale, especially since it was previously reported that they have included a 40-50% sell-on clause in his deal.
