PL big guns drag United into fierce £43m battle for German midfield maestro – report

Towards the end of the 2025 summer transfer window, Manchester United attempted to sign Angelo Stiller after missing out on their top midfield target, Carlos Baleba. However, those efforts proved unsuccessful, with the German midfielder resisting a move to the Premier League. United ultimately failed to secure a midfielder, postponing their plans until 2026. Now, as the summer 2026 transfer window approaches, United’s interest in Stiller has resurfaced. Reports suggest that Christopher Vivell, the club’s director of recruitment, is spearheading the push to bring the VfB Stuttgart star to Old Trafford. According to Bild, a deal worth around €50 million (£43m) could be enough to land the 25‑year‑old. Premier League rivals enter the fray Notably, the same report claims that United are not alone in the chase. The German outlet reveals: “Some leads point to England… Chelsea, for example, have been monitoring Stiller. He reportedly impressed the London club during Chelsea’s 4-1 victory in Leverkusen. They add that “A move to England could see Stiller at least double his salary (around €4.5 million per year).” But Chelsea are not the only threat to United’s pursuit. Football Insider reports that Liverpool are also keen, with transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke noting: “There’s been talk of interest from Real Madrid, Inter Milan… Liverpool and Man United have also been linked as well.” United’s midfield rebuild United’s midfield overhaul is shaping up to be a tricky battle. Other than Stiller, INEOS find themselves in tricky battles for midfielders Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali. However, with Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte also likely to leave, INEOS face little choice but to fight hard for their top targets. For the 20-time English champions, the motivation is clear: if they are to rebuild effectively, they must win these transfer battles, win the transfer race for top targets like Stiller.
