Manchester United fans sent a clear message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe during Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace, responding to his controversial remarks on immigration in the UK. Ratcliffe sparks fury Last month, United co-owner Ratcliffe faced widespread condemnation from within football and across wider society following his controversial views on immigration. In an interview with Sky Sports, the INEOS billionaire claimed that the UK had been “colonised” by immigrants. He also accused immigrants of piling further social, political and economic strain on the nation, noting that they “cost too much money.” Ratcliffe further courted controversy when he cited incorrect data and numbers to make his point. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer led public outrage against Ratcliffe, demanding an apology from the petrochemicals mogul. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham was also highly critical of his comments. United released a statement distancing themselves from Ratcliffe’s remarks. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Glazers were also left horrified by their business partner’s views. Although Ratcliffe later apologised, the supporters have clearly not forgotten his words just yet. Fans send message to Ratcliffe As United hosted Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday, a section of fans took the opportunity to make it clear just how they felt about what Ratcliffe said. United fans displayed a banner which read, “MUFC proudly colonised by immigrants.” On the banner were images of several players including skipper Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Amad. Others were Park Ji-sung, Patrice Evra, Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The banner was unfurled as the squad emerged for the second half. The Red Devils came from behind to beat Palace 2-1, thanks to strikes from Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko. The result catapulted Michael Carrick and his players to third place in the Premier League table.
