Manchester United talent Kai Rooney has confirmed that he has picked up a serious injury. Triumph Kai Rooney, the son of United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, is enjoying a superb rise at the club. He played at Old Trafford for the first time in January, when he came on as a substitute as the Under-18s beat Derby County in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup. The teenage forward featured prominently for the Under-16s and impressed. He was rewarded with a jump to the Under-18s. He has scored two goals in seven appearances across league and cup competitions in this age group. In February, United offered him a scholarship deal in recognition of his potential. Kai will see his contract switch to a three-year deal upon completion of the scholarship. talkSPORT reported that he is set to earn £50,000-a-year with an annual signing-on fee. He was instrumental for the United Under-16s as they secured the Premier League Shield in a 2-0 victory over Burnley at Carrington. Kai’s parents, Rooney and Coleen, were watching from the stands. Yet, no sooner had that success arrived than Kai announced a significant injury setback on social media. Injury blow Kai took to Instagram earlier on Thursday and revealed that he is poised to be out for the remainder of the season through injury. He wrote on Instagram, “Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season.” The 16-year-old’s post included a black-and-white image of himself with his head down, while a red love heart accompanied the caption. Kai will now sit out the rest of the Under-18s and Under-16s games. The absence from the Under-18s is particularly cruel, as it rules him out of their FA Youth Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace. It is not the first time injury has disrupted his season, though. Earlier in the campaign, he shared a photo of himself on crutches, a protective boot visible on his foot. He had scored for the Under-18s against Middlesbrough shortly before being sidelined. This latest setback will no doubt serve as another important lesson in his young career.
