Man Utd star bounces back from 3/10 stinker to regain starting spot; He took Amorim’s advice to heart
Manchester United stalwart Diogo Dalot has returned to the starting lineup after making an impressive upturn in recent weeks. The 26-year-old is the second-longest-serving MUFC player behind Luke Shaw, but his stint at Old Trafford has been a rollercoaster. The Portuguese wing-back has been a regular starter since the arrival of his compatriot Ruben Amorim last year. However, he hasn’t always managed to convince the fanbase or the manager. In fact, Amorim was irked by Dalot’s lack of attacking contribution in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest last month.Diogo Dalot has been enduring several highs and lows at Man UnitedDalot’s performance at City Ground earned him an abysmal 3/10 rating, and he was later dropped from the lineup in favour of Patrick Dorgu. However, the young Dane didn’t cover himself in glory in his two outings against Spurs and Everton, which saw Dalot reinstated.Interestingly, the Portugal international has looked revitalised in his last three starting appearances. After a fine display away to Crystal Palace, he scored the opener in the 1-1 draw against West Ham United, and also provided the assist for Bryan Mbeumo in the 4-1 victory over Wolves on Monday.According to The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Dalot’s resurgence isn’t purely coincidental, but a response to Amorim’s clear instructions following the Forest game. The 40-year-old asked the countryman to become more involved in the attacking phase, which sparked a concrete improvement in the wing-back’s performance. Can Diogo Dalot continue to improve his game under Ruben AmorimIn Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, the two wing-backs play an integral role in both phases of the game. The manager expects them to drop back and form a five-man defensive line when needed, but also to surge forward and take part in the attacking plays, hence why he prefers to play inverted wing-backs, capable of cutting to the middle. Thanks his right foot and overall characteristics, it appears that Dalot is more suitable to interpret the left wing-back role than Dorgu, who remains too green. Dalot’s career stats Appearances Goals Assists Man Utd 224 10 19 AC Milan 33 2 3 Porto 8 0 3 Although he’s been at United for more than seven years, it should be remembered that Dalot is still only 26, so one might argue that he has yet to reach his peak. But thanks to his solid rapport with the manager and his great attachment to the cause, one would back him to take his game up a notch and consolidate his status as a regular starter, perhaps even beyond the current campaign.
Fabrizio Romano reveals two Man Utd January decisions amid ‘very strong’ interest
Fabrizio Romano insists Manchester United have already taken a clear stance on Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo. Both players have been unhappy with the amount of playing time they’ve been receiving this season. The Dutch striker had to wait until Benjamin Sesko’s injury in November to get a run in the starting lineup, but he was dropped after three fixtures in favour of Mason Mount, who joined Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the attacking trident. On the other hand, the young Englishman is still waiting for his first Premier League start of the campaign.Roma & Napoli pushing for Zirkzee & MainooIn recent weeks, Roma emerged as the ultimate frontrunners in the race for Zirkzee, and have already made contact with the player and Man Utd.As for Mainoo, Napoli have been keen to reunite him with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund amidst their injury crisis in midfield. In the latest video update posted on his official YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Roma’s interest in Zirkzee is ‘very strong’ and ‘very concrete’, and the same goes for Napoli and Mainoo. He also reveals that the 20-year-old mifielder has attracted interest from at least 10 suitors. However, the Italian journalist insists that United have no desire to deprive themselves of either player’s services in early January, as they will already be without Amad Diallo, Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui, who will participate in the African Cup of Nations.Could Man Utd change their stance on Kobbie Mainoo & Joshua Zirkzee in late JanuaryWhile Romano insists Man Utd have made up their mind concerning early January, the implication is that the situation could change later in the month when the AFCON stars are back at Carrington.(Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)This could also hinge on how Zirkzee and Mainoo fare when opportunities come their way in January, and whether their suitors (mainly Roma and Napoli) are still in need of mid-season reinforcement later in the month.
Man Utd line up two Bruno Fernandes replacements ahead of £70m Saudi onslaught
Manchester United won’t resist a £70 million offer for Bruno Fernandes, but would instead use it to partially fund their midfield revamp. The Portuguese has been the club’s most influential player over the past five years or so, as confirmed by his illustrious figures. He joined the Red Devils in January 2020 and has been the club’s captain since the summer of 2023.This has also been the case this season, as despite the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Fernandes continues to prove that he’s irreplaceable in the side. Bruno’s Man Utd stats per season Appearance Goals Assists 19/20 22 12 8 20/21 58 28 17 21/22 46 10 14 22/23 59 14 15 23/24 48 15 13 24/25 57 19 19 25/26 16 4 6 Total 306 102 92 The 31-year-old has been dropped to a deeper position this season, playing in the double pivot, but it hasn’t truly affected his attacking charts. He has already contributed with four goals and six assists in 16 appearances. But although he remains an integral player at the club, MUFC could end up sacrificing Bruno in 2026.Man United willing to sell Bruno Fernandes for £70mHaving revamped their attack in 2025, United are plotting a midfield overhaul next, and according to The Daily Briefing, the skipper could be part of the exodus. Fernandes has been a target for Saudi Pro League giants over the past few years. Last summer, he ended up rejecting a bid from Al-Hilal, but only after lengthy negotiations.(Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images)As the source explains, the same suitor will launch a new onslaught in 2026, while their rivals, Al-Ittihad, are expected to join the fray.Man Utd are anticipating offers in the region of £70 million, which could be enough to convince them to part ways with their captain, who will be 32 in the summer, and currently runs on a contract that will expire in June 2027.Man Utd eyeing moves for Carlos Baleba & Elliot AndersonThe report adds that this sum could prove vital for INEOS, who have identified Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson as their main targets to bolster the midfield. The Nottingham Forest star is a box-to-box midfielder who could replace Bruno in the No.8 role, albeit with different characteristics. On the other hand, Brighton’s Cameroonian enforcer could fill in for Casemiro, whose contract will expire at the end of the season, or even the disappointing Manuel Ugarte. All in all, parting ways with Bruno is certainly a risky move on United’s part, but the offers could be too tempting to resist, especially considering the aforementioned circumstances.
‘Expected to be out eight weeks’: Laurie Whitwell shares unfortunate injury news he’s hearing out of Carrington
Laurie Whitwell has confirmed that Toby Collyer could be sidelined for as long as two months while he recovers from a groin strain. The Athletic journalist took to X/Twitter last night to provide an update on the young midfielder’s situation, stating he is ‘expected to be out [for] eight weeks’. Ruben Amorim mentioned Toby Collyer today. Reported last week he has returned to Manchester United to undergo treatment on a calf injury, expected to be out eight weeks. Decision then on whether his loan at West Brom continues. #MUFC ⬇️https://t.co/FJxEZk30B2 — Laurie Whitwell (@lauriewhitwell) December 12, 2025Toby Collyer hit with gutting injury blow(Photo by Stephen Pond/Getty Images)Then, both Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion, where he’s spending the season on loan, will have to make a decision on whether he will resume his stint at The Hawthorns.“It’s quite a big injury. He’s at United at the minute. They’re just assessing him, and then I think in the coming weeks, we’ll just decide his plan regarding his rehab,” said manager Ryan Mason after Collyer suffered his setback.Collyer joined West Brom back in mid-August in hopes of securing increased game time, having seemingly been made aware by Ruben Amorim that he would not be getting much joy if he opted to stay put at Old Trafford – just look at how his fellow Carrington graduate Kobbie Mainoo is faring while vying for minutes.Collyer will be mulling over his long-term United future after loan spell(Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)The 21-year-old has racked up 13 senior appearances in red since making his first-team bow in the Community Shield last summer, most recently featuring for 39 minutes in a 3-0 away win over Leicester City in March. He garnered interest from over 12 Championship sides when 2024/2025 came to a close, and eventually decided that he would best develop with the Black Country outfit.Prior to his lengthy setback, Collyer made 12 league appearances and assisted once. However, only three of the outings were from the off.Read more: Xavi Simons was blown away by ‘really good’ and ‘technical’ star Man Utd sold for peanuts, now they want him back
Insider: In-form United ace currently receiving ‘extra treatment’ as ‘precautionary’ steps in place for injury
Matthijs de Ligt is receiving ‘extra treatment’ for his back injury in hopes of having him return as swiftly as possible. The centre-half had started every Premier League game, playing the full 90 minutes in each, before suffering his setback just before Manchester United’s clash with West Ham last Thursday. What’s happening with Matthijs de Ligt?(Photo by Warren Little/Getty Images)According to trusted United insider Sully on X/Twitter, Ruben Amorim and the coaching staff’s decision to omit De Ligt from the squad for gameweek 14 and 15 has been more of a ‘precautionary’ measure. 🚨 Matthjis de Ligt has been having extra treatment set by the club this week to deal with a minor back issue. Xavi Simons was blown away by ‘really good’ and ‘technical’ star Man Utd sold for peanuts, now they want him back
Xavi Simons has admitted he was ‘surprised’ by James Garner’s abilities in the matches they faced one another. The midfielder, currently plying his trade with Everton, spent 13 years working his way through Manchester United’s academy ranks before making a permanent move to Merseyside in September 2022.How James Garner made a name for himself(Photo by Will Russell/Getty Images)Garner made only seven first-team appearances for the Red Devils after making his senior bow in February 2019, most of which came in the 2019/2020 Europa League group stage.Ultimately, the Birkenhead-born star rose to prominence during his spells away from Old Trafford, most notably during the one-and-a-half seasons he spent with Nottingham Forest. He played an influential role in Forest earning promotion to the top flight following a 23-year absence, making 41 league appearances (36 of which came from the off) and returning four goals and eight assists throughout the 2021/2022 term. That subsequent summer when Everton came knocking, Garner green-lit the move, with United earning £15 million through the sale of their academy graduate.Reports in recent weeks have suggested United would consider re-signing Garner to bolster their midfield with a familiar face when his contract expires next year. However, the Toffees are doing their utmost behind the scenes to prevent him from leaving on a free by tying him down to another long-term deal. What Simons had to say about Garner(Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images)When speaking with United legend Wayne Rooney on his BBC Sport show, Tottenham Hotspur starlet Simons singled out Garner as one player whose abilities shocked him.“The one that surprised me was, I guess, [at] Everton, was… I knew him because of the youth teams he played in at Manchester United, James Garner,” said Simons.“I knew from the… he’s older than me, but I knew [him]. Now, when I played against him, I felt like, ‘Okay, technical with the ball, I think he’s really, really good.’”
Nani Hopes Man Utd Win Battle For £65M Forward Who’s The Type Of Player “Fans Want To See”
BACK David Tully Dec 13th 2025 Ex-Man Utd winger Nani thinks his former club should be pursuing a move for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo next month. The Ghanaian international has a £65m release clause in his contract that can be triggered in January, and asked about the prospect of the Red Devils signing the winger, Nani replied: “That’s the type of player the fans want to see. However, we know that when players come to Man United, this is totally different. It’s a different environment, different pressure, different mentality, different job, and then they have to adapt.” “I hope if we get Semenyo, he can come with his attitude, with this mentality and he can put all of his talent on the field and help the team.” Will the club make a move for Semenyo? There was reportedly genuine interest in the 25-year-old last summer, but United are expected to prioritise a move for a midfielder when the transfer window reopens. It is a position that is in desperate need of strengthening. At the moment, Liverpool are regarded as slight favourites to secure Semenyo’s signature, althought both Manchester City and Tottenham are said to hold a strong interest in the player as well. He will face Man Utd on Monday Fans will be able to see Semenyo in action when Bournemouth make the trip to Old Trafford at the start of next week. Semenyo made a very good start to the season in front of goal, finding the back of the net 6 times and providing 3 assists in his first 8 appearances in all competitions, but he has not scored in his last 7 games. Man Utd fans will very much be hoping that Semenyo doesn’t rediscover his scoring touch when he takes to the pitch on Monday evening. CL giants in talks to agree €70m swap deal involving United academy graduate and Argentina star – report
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford is enjoying life in Spain, having rediscovered his swagger at Barcelona. Rashford, currently on a season-long loan at Barca, has been directly involved in 17 goals across all competitions. In comparison, Bruno Fernandes, who remains United’s most potent attacking threat, has contributed to 10 goals. Barcelona have an option to buy the Englishman for around €30 million. However, the financial-stricken Catalan giants are yet to make a final decision on his future. Barcelona want to include Rashford in swap deal Marcus Rashford has impressed with his versatility, featuring on both flanks as well as through the middle under Hansi Flick. However, the Barcelona hierarchy are keen to sign a natural number nine to replace veteran Robert Lewandowski. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has emerged as the Blaugrana’s priority target. According to a report in Spain, as relayed by Football365, Barcelona plan to include Rashford in a swap deal with Atletico. It is outlandishly claimed that the La Liga giants intend to trigger Rashford’s €30m clause, a relatively bargain figure, before offloading him in the same window. The report adds that the “conditions are set” for this deal, with a €70m fee and Rashford said to be used to sign Alvarez. Atletico Madrid admire Rashford It is stated: “Atlético Madrid haven’t ruled out signing the English striker if Julián Álvarez ultimately ends up at Barcelona. Diego Simeone greatly appreciates Rashford’s profile, particularly his speed and directness in exploiting space from any attacking area.” Atletico allegedly value Rashford at around €50m and the ex-Manchester City forward at €120m. Thus, an additional €70m from Barcelona would satisfy their demands, paving the way for Alvarez to move to Camp Nou. As far as United are concerned, it is safe to assume they will not care where Rashford ends up next season, as long as they get their €30m. “The best”: United stalwart earns high praise from two-time PL Player of the Year
Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has heaped praise on Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender has come into his own this season after a mixed 2024/25 campaign. De Ligt arrived at Old Trafford from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024. A former Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy winner, the Ajax academy product was included in the Champions League Team of the Year in 2019. The Dutchman left the Johan Cruyff Arena that summer to move to Juventus, before joining Bayern Munich in 2022. However, with his career failing to pan out as expected, the Red Devils were presented with the chance to secure De Ligt’s signature last year. It was an offer that the Premier League giants took with both hands, and as things stand, their decision has already been vindicated. A rock at the back this season De Ligt was part of the team that struggled last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League table and losing the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. However, with a full pre-season behind him, the 26 year old looks back to his best. Until the draw against West Ham United, De Ligt had played every minute of every Premier League game for United this season. He has effectively relegated Harry Maguire to the bench, marshalling the defence from the central centre-back position. He is also the first defender to win the award since Noussair Mazraoui a year ago. De Ligt’s performances have now drawn praise from two-time Premier League Player of the Year Nemanja Vidic. Vidic hails De Ligt Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Vidic stressed the importance of a good backline in a team’s success. “I honestly believe that the defenders bring the trophies because if you look at the statistics in the past 10, 15, 20 years, you will see that the team that concede the least goals win the trophies,” said Vidic. “I think that’s important. I think this season, Man United, some games they play well at the back, but in some games, they concede a few goals.” The Serbian defender went on to name De Ligt as the club’s best defender this season. “So, if you look at [it] statistically, you will say that we still concede too many goals, but I agree that some players improved their game and [are] then playing this season much better,” said Vidic. “De Ligt is, I think, the best player at the back for Man United. So, I think consistency is the key. If you want to play for Man United, you have to perform week in, week out. You know, you cannot afford to have one good game and two bad games.” Vidic forged a rock-solid partnership with Rio Ferdinand during their time together at Old Trafford and was part of the backline that helped Edwin van der Sar go a record 1,311 minutes without conceding a goal. As such, the former United skipper’s endorsement underlines how important De Ligt has been for the Red Devils this season. Final Thoughts Amorim has already confirmed that De Ligt will miss Monday’s Premier League fixture with a knock. The Dutchman’s absence could be a huge blow for United, especially with Maguire also sidelined through injury. Meanwhile, with the Englishman out of contract at the end of this season and already in his thirties, De Ligt looks like the new leader at the back for United. If the Dutchman continues his current form, he could play a key role in the Red Devils’ return to their glory days. “Everything on the table”: Skinner gives intriguing update about future of CL winner
Manchester United Women manager Marc Skinner has spoken to the press ahead of tomorrow’s crucial match against Tottenham Hotspur. United currently sit third in the league and have the opportunity to move up to second, depending on other results. They will then face the same opposition one week later in the quarter-final of the League Cup, with a trip to Turin to face Juventus sandwiched in between. United closing in on transfers Skinner has regularly spoken about the club’s need to sign players to compete in all competitions in January and was positive about this happening during the press conference, in comments carried by the club’s official website. He elaborated, “we are already hopefully close to a couple of players, which I think will be exciting.” Skinner continued, “we need to be creative within the parameters, but what I’d say is, we need to add to the group. I think I’ve said this all throughout…. I think everybody’s said it, haven’t they? But I must stress, and I need to stress again: it’s not because of the quality of my players, it’s just the depth to kind of continue that experience as well, especially with the level of competition.” The manager said it “would be nice” to add more than the two players the club are close to signing, and in particular, the forward line needs strengthening. The Peoples Person has already reported this morning that United are keen on Bayern Munich forward Lea Schuller and Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist. Response to criticism on rotation A key feature of this season has been Skinner rotating the side. Elisabeth Terland and Melvine Malard have frequently been rotated in the number nine role. What’s more, both Jess Park and Ella Toone were dropped to the bench in the humbling 0-3 loss to Olympique Lyonnais midweek. Responding to this criticism, he retorted, “what I would say is when I don’t rotate, people question it. When I do rotate, people question why I do. It’s not about prioritising any fixture. There was no way we were just saving ourselves for Tottenham.” Geyse Interestingly, Skinner also stated that the future of Brazilian star Geyse remains very much open. He claimed that “everything is on the table” regarding her future. The 27-year-old joined United in 2024 but struggled to adapt to life in England, and there was controversy when her agent claimed the club tried to loan her out whilst she was attending her brother’s funeral. She was eventually sent out on loan to Gotham FC in March, but the American team have confirmed that she will not be remaining on their roster and will indeed be returning to United.
