“Outstanding” Premier League midfielder in no rush to leave current club, big blow to United’s 2026 plans – report

Manchester United may have ended the summer without signing a new midfielder, but the position was on their agenda this year.

The Red Devils were linked with a host of talented names during the course of the transfer window, including Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Angelo Stiller.

However, the Premier League giants prioritised other positions this summer and ended up missing out on a new midfielder.

Interestingly, United are expected to make amends in 2026, with recent reports suggesting that they plan to sign two new faces for the position next year.

Anderson also on the agenda

Elliot Anderson has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent times.

The English midfielder has gone from strength to strength with Nottingham Forest in recent times, and United have reportedly added him to their wish list for 2026.

Anderson has also seen his stock rise following his recent outings with the national team against Andorra and Serbia.

However, prising him away from Nottingham Forest won’t be a walk in the park.

Anderson is settled at City Ground

Anderson is an all-round midfielder who can carry out various roles in the middle of the park. His versatility also makes him a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s plans.

However, speaking to Football Insider, Pete O’Rourke insisted that the player is happy at Nottingham Forest.

“It’s another difficult deal, but I’m not surprised Man United have been looking at Anderson. Now that he’s broken into the England squad, his profile is only going to get bigger,” the journalist claimed.

“He was sold for £35 million, and the way he’s going right now, if he continues to impress for club and country in the next 12 months, you’ll see his price double at least.

“He’s on a long-term contract at the City Ground until 2029, so Forest are under no pressure to sell. He’s on the radar of a lot of clubs, but I don’t think there’s anything imminent on his future.

“Forest will be more than content to keep him, and the player is happy there and happy to stay with the way things are working out for him at Forest. I don’t expect he’ll be planning to move on any time soon as things stand.”

The 22-year-old has played every minute of every game this season for Forest.
