Ornstein reveals how close Man United are to signing ‘phenomenal’ star

David Ornstein on broadcast

David Ornstein sheds some light on Manchester United’s business end of the summer transfer session, including their pursuit of Senne Lammens.

During his appearance on TNT Sports ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Fulham, The Athletic journalist confirmed Kobbie Mainoo’s desire to leave Carrington on loan in search of additional playing time. However, Man Utd are keen to keep him, unless they can find a suitable replacement, which might be unlikely at this late stage of the summer.

Moreover, Orsntein mentioned the expected departures of Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, but also delivered an unpleasant update regarding the goalkeeping department.

Following the disappointing showings from Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana in the first three fixtures of the season, Man Utd decided to accelerate their attempts to land Lammens, whom they have identified as their main target for the role.

The 23-year-old is coming off a solid campaign with Royal Antwerp and has been lauded for his ‘phenomenal’ displays. In recent days, it has been claimed that United are close to finalising the Belgian’s transfer, especially following Lammens’ omission from the matchday squad last weekend.

However, Ornstein reveals that the negotiations between the two clubs aren’t as ‘advanced’ as some have suggested.

Man United not too close to sealing Lammens deal

It seems that Man Utd will have some ground to make up in the next 48 hours to close the deal.

Moreover, the transfer market expert believes that MUFC are unlikely to offload Onana this late in the market, while Bayindir’s exit might be more plausible.

This aligns with what Ben Jacobs has reported on the Cameroonian goalkeeper on Saturday afternoon. The British journalist insists that Onana is set to stay at Man Utd, even if Lammens were to arrive.
