While Manchester United enjoyed an emphatic 2-0 win over Manchester City with Michael Carrick at the helm, former manager Ruben Amorim has come under fire. Two weeks ago, Amorim was sacked from his role at Old Trafford, immediately replaced by interim head coach Darren Fletcher. Still, it was clear that Man United needed someone with more experience leading the team, with Carrick taking over from Fletcher after just two matches. While the jury is still out on whether Amorim’s dismissal was the right call, Napoli boss Antonio Conte has made his strong opinion on the Portuguese manager clearly known. Conte hits out at “arrogant” Amorim Ahead of his team’s 1-0 win over Sassuolo, the Italian head coach spoke about how he has developed United loanee Rasmus Hojlund over the course of the season, while also taking aim at Amorim. “Some young coaches nowadays are arrogant and don’t want to adapt,” Conte stated, as quoted by the Mirror. “They see a young striker struggling, and instead of training him, they blame him. They always complain and blame everyone but themselves, because everything is handed to them on a silver platter,” he continued. This isn’t the first time that Conte called out Amorim, however. Back in December, he alluded to a coaching failure on Amorim’s part, both when it came to Hojlund and fellow former United player Scott McTominay. Amorim’s unwanted track record As relayed by The Peoples Person, Conte was impressed with both Hojlund and McTominay during Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Bologna in the Italian Super Cup. “Hojlund and McTominay were not playing at Manchester United, so there must be a reason given the work done by me and my staff,” Conte said of the duo. “I believe our job is to expand a player’s knowledge and make him stronger,” he continued in an apparent dig at Amorim. “I invest a lot in that, and I think every player I have worked with has always come out improved technically, tactically, and mentally.” Should Conte’s view of Amorim prove correct, then perhaps Ineos made the right call by parting ways with the struggling manager. Still, it remains to be seen how Carrick will be able to nurture the young stars in his team as the season progresses.
