Benjamin Sesko doubled his goal for the season in just 90 minutes last night as he earned Manchester United their point against Burnley.Heading into the clash with the Clarets, the Slovenian had not found the back of the net since October 4, when he scored his second-ever goal for the club in a 2-0 win over Sunderland. His maiden contribution came in the match prior, albeit he couldn’t properly celebrate the milestone, as it was during United’s 3-1 away defeat to Brentford.Benjamin Sesko enjoys best performance in a United shirt thus far(Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)At Turf Moor, Sesko displayed his most confident and promising showing since his £73 million move from RB Leipzig. He also became the first player this campaign to record a whopping seven shots on target in a single game, which proves he’s getting in all the right places and at the right times to try and convert his teammates’ chances, but the youngster just needs to refine his clinicality.Even aside from his efforts on goal, he put in a spirited shift to try and get United over the line; the 22-year-old won 78 per cent of his aerial duels (eight in total) and had 13 touches in the opposition’s box. Only two players have had 7+ shots on target and won 7+ duels in a Premier League game across the last 10 seasons: ◎ Harry Kane vs. West Brom (2017)◉ Benjamin Sesko vs. Burnley (2026) Not bad company to be keeping. 😀 https://t.co/d11KStNxs3 — Squawka (@Squawka) January 7, 2026Sesko is doing his bit to keep his starting spot(Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)It marked Sesko’s fifth successive start in the league, and he’ll now be keeping his fingers crossed that he’s done enough to retain his place in the coming weeks, particularly when a new caretaker manager takes the reins and when Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo return from the African Cup of Nations.Darren Fletcher confirmed post-match that INEOS chiefs had asked him to oversee Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, after which his interim spell may conclude. Then, for United, it’s Manchester City on January 17 and a trip to face league leaders Arsenal on January 25.
