“On his way out”: Champions League winner heading for PL switch but he will not come cheap – report

In a bid to assemble a strong squad for coach Ruben Amorim, Manchester United have been linked with some of the finest talents European football has to offer.

One such name is PSG’s Kang-in Lee. As versatile as they come, the South Korean can operate as a winger or attacking midfielder.

His brilliance played a role in Luis Enrique’s PSG resurgence, which ultimately led them to secure the elusive Champions League glory last season.

While the 24-year-old was not a regular starter, making just 19 starts in 30 Ligue 1 appearances and starting only four of 11 Champions League games last season, he remains highly rated in Paris, with Enrique believed to be a firm admirer.

Yet, while being part of a club like PSG is an honour, it only becomes a privilege when accompanied by regular playing time. In Lee’s case, mounting pressure is forcing him to reassess his situation.

The suggestion is clear: he is too good to continue playing a peripheral role. Frequently left out of big matches, Lee could yet thrive elsewhere in a more prominent role.

His lively cameo in PSG’s UEFA Super Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur only fuelled claims that Lee is wasted on the bench at Parc des Princes.

Man United and Arsenal links

A report relayed by The Peoples Person recently claimed United, long-time admirers of the ex-Valencia man, were monitoring his situation closely.

However, the report also revealed that United would face stiff competition from Arsenal, who had already opened direct talks over a potential deal.

Days later, Lee remains in Paris. But whether he will still be there come Monday’s transfer deadline remains uncertain.

Pressure to quit PSG

According to journalist Jang-Hyun, pressure is mounting in South Korea for Lee to consider a move.

“Korean media and fans are asking a lot of questions about whether Kang-in Lee is being given enough opportunities,” he told Foot Mercato (via Foot01).

“I know it’s impossible for PSG to play all their starters in every match, but many find it hard to understand why he is consistently left out of important games.

“This is a World Cup year, which raises serious concerns about maintaining his performance level. No matter the size of the club, it’s difficult for a player who can’t play regularly to perform well.”

Asking price could be an issue

Such pressure to play more in a World Cup year could work in United’s favour.

For the 20-time English champions, this may be a chance to strike, provided PSG are willing to compromise on their demands, with Jang-Hyun arguing:

“His €45 million price tag is bad. Will he remain a permanent rotation player? The amount is excessive for a non-starting player.”

Whether United test PSG’s resolve before Monday’s deadline, and whether Lee becomes available at a more reasonable fee, remains to be seen.

However, with Christian Eriksen, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho all leaving this summer, Lee could prove a smart replacement for them in this top team INEOS is assembling for Amorim.
